A birth doula will meet with the client throughout the pregnancy, provide continuous support during labor and birth, and provides a postpartum visit to review the birth experience and discuss the client's postpartum needs. Depending on the needs, the doulas may: Help create a birth plan, Discuss self-care techniques, Provide encouragement and physical support during labor, Help the client understand medical and non-medical options, and can also refer clients to local healthcare professionals or support groups. Can help regardless of birth plan or outcome, including in situations of adoption or loss.
