- No income limit. - Serves all areas. - Both spouses MUST be present at appointment for those filing a joint return. - Able to assist with self-employment (sole-proprietorships) and businesses without inventory. - Able to assist with tuition and fees deduction. - Able to assist with First Time Home buyers. - Able to assist with Health Savings Accounts. - Able to assist with Schedule A, C, D, and E (only land rental). - Able to assist with 1099B, 1099C, 1099R 1099DIV, 1099MISC, 1099NEC and Form 982. - NOTE: Not able to assist with bankruptcy or foreclosure; or farm or rental income. - NOTE: If completing a tax return for a minor, then minor and parent/guardian must attend appointment. Special Accommodations: - If filing a joint return with a deceased spouse, then must bring death certificate. - If filing a return for an individual who is homebound or disabled, then must have legal documentation providing permission to process the tax return (Legal Power of Attorney, POA).
- Photo ID for the tax filer (and spouse, if filing jointly). Both must be present if a joint return is to be filed. - Income and expense documentation (such as a W-2) for the previous year. - Proof of Identification: Social Security card or Social Security number verification letter for the tax filer, spouse, and any dependents. Photocopies are NOT acceptable. - Income and expense documentation (such as a W-2, 1099's) for the previous year. - Copies of the previous year's federal and state tax returns, if available. - Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit (a voided check - not a deposit slip - or written verification from the bank is required). - Birth dates for the tax filer, spouse, and any dependents. - Any other materials or records clients feel are pertinent to their taxes. Special Accommodations: - If filing a joint return with a deceased spouse, then must bring death certificate. - If filing a return for an individual who is homebound or disabled, then must have legal documentation entitling permission to process the taxpayer's taxes. 2026 tax preparation assistance by appointment on the following location(s) at the following days and times: - Reed Memorial Library: Beginning Monday February 2nd through Monday April 6th, 2026. By appointment on Mondays from 10:30 through 2:30 (except no appointments scheduled from 11:15am - 12:15pm) Located at 167 East Main Street in Ravenna (44266). Location is wheelchair accessible for the tax appointments. - Streetsboro United Methodist Church: Beginning Wednesday February 4th through Thursday April 9th, 2026. By appointment on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 2:30pm (except no appointments scheduled between 11:30am - 12:00pm) Located at 8940 State Route 43 in Streetsboro (44241). Enter main door of the church. Location is wheelchair accessible for the tax appointments. - United Methodist Church of Kent: Beginning Friday January 30th through Saturday April 4th, 2026. By appointment on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm (except no appointments scheduled between 11:45am - 1:00pm) Located at 1435 East Main Street in Kent (44240), Education wing, East (toward Ravenna) side of building, furthest from sanctuary. Location is wheelchair accessible for the tax appointments. Travel Instructions: - Reed Memorial Library: Located on Main Street (Route 59). Coming from the west (Kent) on the left side of street past the Court house. From the east, on the right side of street past the Dairy Queen. From north (Route 88) turn right on Main Street. From South (Route 44) turn right, within a block. Seniors MAY PARK beside the building. Once inside follow the signs to the Jenkins room (down the stairs or use the elevator to the right of the stairs). - Streetsboro United Methodist Church: Located on State route 43 South of Street Route 14 and Street Route 303 headed towards Kent. Park in the parking lot. Enter main door of the church. - United Methodist Church of Kent: Located on State Route 59. East of downtown Kent and just East of Kent State University campus. Across Main Street from campus. Enter the door on the East side, Education wing, of the building (furthest from the sanctuary) close to Henry Wahner's restaurant. All other doors will be locked.

- Beginning Wednesday January 21st, 2026 through Wednesday April 8th, 2026: Visit the website at www.uwportage.org/taxhelp or call 2-1-1 to schedule or change a tax appointment. - Same day appointments are not available. Appointments must be scheduled at least 24-hours ahead. - If needing taxes prepared for multiple years, an appointment must be made for each tax year. - In-Person Model: Clients are required to stay at the site while their taxes are completed. - Drop-Off Model: Documents will be inventoried and retained. A copy of the client's driver's license is needed for this model. The pick-up appointment will be made by the site counselor at the end of your initial appointment. You will be asked to return the following day or week to review, sign, and give permission to e-file your taxes. NOTE: Packets will not be distributed ahead of appointments for 2026. Instead, individuals should expect to fill out packets directly before their appointment, and should arrive 20 minutes before scheduled time.

Description

Provides free tax preparation assistance and electronic filing for low-income households. Will complete returns and amended returns for 2025, and back taxes for 2021 through 2024. Offers both in-person and drop-off preparation models. Most clients should expect to use the in-person preparation model.
