Application process

Must apply in writing to vote absentee in each election. To vote by mail, registered individuals may request ballots starting 90 days before the election - ballots are then mailed 30 days before the election. Call M-F: 8:00am-4:30pm to request a ballot application. Members of the US military may request mail-in ballots by fax, but they must fax the requests by noon on the Saturday before the election. Mailed ballots can be received at the Board of Elections starting 30 days before an election (Military ballots must be returned by mail). Ballots must be postmarked (by the US postal service) no later than the day before election day and must be received within 10 days of election day. Ballots may also be dropped off at the Board of Elections no later than 7:30pm on election day.

Eligibility

Must be a Geauga County resident, registered 30 days before an election, aged 18 on or before the day of the general election. 17 year-olds who will be 18 by the time of the yearly general election may vote in a primary for candidates only. Must be a resident of Ohio for at least 30 consecutive days immediately before the election in which they want to vote. Individuals meeting all other eligibility who are incarcerated for a misdemeanor or who are ex-offenders convicted of felonies (other than for violations of Ohio election law) are eligible to vote. Ex-offenders convicted of felonies who re-registered to vote following their release from prison are eligible to vote. Voters who have moved since they last voted must register their new address. College students living in Ohio and registered to vote by the deadline may vote using whichever address the student considers his or her permanent residence at the time of voting.
