Application process
- Accepting pre-applications for Public Housing Program waiting list. Pre-applications can be downloaded from the website. Paper forms are available outside the front entrance of Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority's (LMHA) main office. Call the office or visit the website for more information. - Completed pre-applications must be mailed or hand delivered to the office. - Applications submitted by any other means will not be eligible. - Only one pre-application accepted per household. - Only one pre-application per envelope. - Upon receipt, LMHA will retain in order based on bedroom size and the date received. - On each Monday and Wednesday, LMHA will select a pre-determined number of applications per needed bedroom size in order of their receipt. The number selected will be in accordance with LMHA’s operational needs. - LMHA will contact those selected only by the phone number or email provided on the pre-application to begin screening for eligibility. NOTE: It may be several months before applicants are contacted. NOTE: Effective November 30th, 2024 at 11:59pm, Public Housing, Harr Plaza, and International Plaza waiting lists will be closing.

- Rent is based on 30% of Adjusted Gross Income. - For residents with higher qualifying incomes, flat rents are available for some programs. - Security Deposits are required. - Residents in family developments are responsible for payment of gas and electricity. - All utilities (except telephone and cable) are provided in the high rise units.

Federally subsidized through the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Housing Authority's Public Housing Program and the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program provide housing subsidy in a variety of apartments giving low income individuals the opportunity to live in dignity while paying an affordable rent.
