Description

Provides information about diseases that may be treatable with hematopoietic cell transplants (which are bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cell, and/or cord blood tranplants), the transplant process and how to prepare for it, recovering from a transplant, transplants in children, and caring for a transplant recipient or person affected by a disease that may be treatable with a transplant. Provides referrals. Offers teleconferences and printed materials on a variety of topics related to disease management and transplant recovery.

Operates the national stem cell registry, by coordinating the collection of hematopoietic cells that are obtained from bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells, and cord blood. Maintains the Be The Match registry of potential bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell donors and a database of cord blood that has been banked at public cord blood banks. Provides services to patients who have received hematopoietic cell transplants.
