Application process
- Individuals or families can apply for housing online by visiting the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) website at www.akronhousing.org. Follow instructions for submitting a Preliminary Application. - Once a Preliminary Application has been submitted online, the applicant will be provided with a confirmation number as proof of the date and time of application submission. - When applicants are near the top of the wait list for any of the programs they selected, applicants will be notified by mail to attend an orientation and complete a full application. - Persons with disabilities needing assistance should contact the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority Reasonable Accommodations Coordinator at 330-762-9631.
Fee
Approximately 30% of adjusted gross income for rent.
Eligibility
Serves Summit County residents age 18 and over who meet income eligibility guidelines. Applicants are subject to a criminal background check. Any past balance owed must be paid in full before AMHA can offer housing. The Very Low Income (HCVP - Section 8) Eligibility Guidelines (updated April 1, 2024): - Family of 1 = $33,400. - Family of 2 = $38,200. - Family of 3 = $42,950. - Family of 4 = $47,700. - Family of 5 = $51,550. - Family of 6 = $55,350. - Family of 7 = $59,150. - Family of 8 = $63,000. The Low Income (Public Housing) Eligibility Guidelines (updated April 1st, 2024): - Family of 1: $53,450. - Family of 2: $61,050. - Family of 3: $68,700. - Family of 4: $76,300. - Family of 5: $82,450. - Family of 6: $88,550. - Family of 7: $94,650. - Family of 8: $100,750.
