Serves individuals age 16 and over who are legally blind and meet the following criteria: - Must have good mental and physical health, including the ability to walk several blocks without jeopardizing any current medical conditions. - Have successfully completed a basic course in orientation and mobility (white cane training). - Able to care for and physically handle a large breed dog.
- Same as site hours. - Once completed application is received, the review process typically takes 30 to 60 days. If approved for a program, assignment to a class usually takes an additional 30 to 90 days. - Call for details regarding next available 3-week residential training program.

Description

Provides and trains individuals in the use of guide dogs. The guide dogs have been trained to help individuals who have visual impairments or blindness increase their mobility and independence and/or maximize their ability to communicate effectively. Offers a variety of training options, including in-home and on-campus, to pair recipients with their guide dog.
