Routinely inspects household sewage systems owned by individuals or businesses. Collects surface water samples to test for quality near these systems. Also tests water from private wells upon request. Issues permits for new sewage systems and wells in its jurisdiction, and inspects these upon completion. Verifies abandonment of sewage systems when sanitary sewer connection occurs. Verifies abandonment of private water systems.

Conducts a wide range of health-related education, regulation, and support services within its jurisdiction. Includes Environmental Health Division (food protection, risk assessments, septic system and well safety, solid waste disposal), Prevention and Wellness Division(nutrition services, wellness programs, dental care referrals), immunizations, lead poisoning prevention and detection, communicable disease prevention and control, child care education, school health, etc.), and Epidemiology/Surveillance Division. Acts as liaison with Early Start and Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps.
