Eligibility
Single persons or married couples may adopt. Minor children or adults determined to be totally and permanently disabled or mentally retarded may be adopted. Adults may adopt another adult provided a parent-child relationship existed while the adoptee was a minor. Handles adoptions where Geauga County is the location of the agency having custody of child, where child was born, where person(s) seeking to adopt resides, where adopting person is stationed in military service, or where natural parent resides (for independent placement). Other eligibility may apply. Release of information may be available only to certain persons and in certain situations depending on age of adoptee and date adoption was granted.
