- Applicants must be age 18 and over who have graduated high school by the time of MEDCAMP and be enrolled at a college or university entering their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of undergraduate education, and GPA of 3.0 or greater. - Participants selected to participate in MEDCAMP must reside or go to school in Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Holmes, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas, Trumbull, or Wayne Counties. First consideration is given to applicants from groups and areas that are underrepresented in health care professions.
MEDCAMP is generally held in July. Applications generally due in the spring.

Potential participants may be nominated for the program by a teacher, guidance counselor, or themselves. Accepts only 50 participants into the program. Applications are reviewed and candidates are chosen by a selection committee.

Description

Offers a three-day intensive immersion experience for students who have demonstrated achievement in science and an interest in a health professions career. Focus on how a physician talks with a patient, how to study the clues to a patient’s illness and how to solve the case by using critical thinking skills in addition to modern laboratory techniques. Meals and transportation by bus to a Kent State University dormitory for overnight accommodations are provided for the students while at NEOMED.
