School Based Support Services | Lifespan*

Providing school based supportive student services; Information and Referral Services, Direct Services, Linkage to Crisis Intervention and Referral to Mental Health Therapy Services. 1. Information and Referral Services: Working with teachers, administrators, support staff, and parents, assistance is provided to families and students to address the non-cognitive barriers to learning, including but not limited to health care, food, clothing, housing, mental health, and domestic/partner violence. 2. Direct Service to Students, Families, and Staff: SBSWs assess student needs, develop achievement plans to assure appropriate services and supports are in place and operational, address social-emotional-psychological issues that are barriers to learning/student engagement, and provide support to students who are otherwise unable to access mental health services. Parent engagement is always sought so that parents can become effective partners in the educational process. 3. Linkage to Crisis Intervention Services: An on-site SBSW provides immediate crisis response and helps support students and staff during such episodes. Crises range from minor (child out of control in a classroom) to major (suicide ideation or gestures, homicide ideation or threats, or sexual assaults). 4. Linkage and referral to mental health therapy services
