Eligibility

- Serves youth who are living with a family member or non-relative who have legal custody on or after July 1, 2005. - Child must reside with relative. - Child and caregiver must live in Jefferson County. - Household income (including all minor children ) may not exceed 300% of Federal Poverty Guideline Level. - Those eligible can receive $525 per child initially, and $300 per child at six month intervals, not to exceed eight total payments. NOTE: Having Power of Attorney (POA) does NOT qualify.

- Verification of legal custody. - Proof of income: accepts a variety of documentation as proof.

Call to request application. May leave message after hours. Process includes completing an approved agency home study to include criminal background check (fingerprints) for all adult household members and a safety audit of the household.

Description

Provides short term, time-limited payments to relative caregivers who have obtained permanent legal custody of a child. Payments are designed to reimburse the initial costs associated with taking a relative's child/ren into the home. Availability determined by state budget and availability of funds. NOTE: this service is not emergency assistance.
