Application process

Walk in for service. May phone for information, if needed. Once paperwork is complete, the filing party will then be directed to the Juvenile Court Clerk's office to file their application or motion for custody or visitation. Cases will then either be created by the filing of an application or reopened by the filing of a motion. The Clerk's office will either direct the case to Custody Mediation for handling, or it will be sent directly to a Judge or magistrate to be set for hearing.

Free for forms assistance from this ofice - but client may incur filing fees when they file at the Juvenile Court Clerk's Office.

Eligibility

Those seeking custody/visitation of a minor. Child must have been living in Cuyahoga County for at least 6 months, but will make exceptions in cases where the child is at an age under 6 months. Handles cases such as when parents were never married, third parties such as grandparents and legal custodians, and parents that are still married and living seperately, but not legally separated. Generally, does not assist with custody/visitation cases that were determined by the Domestic Relations Court (in this situation, parents, relatives, and 3rd parties would need to go to the Domestic Relations Court for any modifications).
