SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY INSURANCE (SSDI) | UNITED STATES SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION
Provides monthly cash benefits to disabled or blind persons who meet minimum length of employment requirements (or whose spouse or parents meet requirement). Benefit amount is based on worker's earnings history. Those who receive SSDI for 24 months are eligible for Medicare. SSDI recipients with limited income and assets may also qualify for SSI benefits.

Certain Social Security programs allow individuals on SSD to perform limited work and maintain their cash and medical benefits.
