Provides information concerning Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Guardian Ad Litem (GALs) who advocate for the best interests of children whose parents have become involved with the Juvenile Court due to issues of abuse, neglect, or dependency. The CASA volunteer investigates the situation, conducts interviews with the family, then prepares a report for the Juvenile Court. Offers training courses for community volunteers who wish to act in the role of the CASA.

Eligibility

Minor children under 18 whose parents are being prosecuted for child abuse, substance abuse issues, or neglect in the Ross County Juvenile Court. Does not advocate in cases with youth whose parents are divorced or divorcing and are affected by custody and visitation issues.

Probate: Court with jurisdiction over matters such as probate of wills, estates, the issuance of marriage licenses, adoption proceedings, determination of sanity or mental competence, name changes and adult and juvenile guardianship. Juvenile: Hears cases involving the delinquency of persons under eighteen years of age, and cases dealing with unruly, abused, neglected, and dependent children. Also hears all traffic offenses committed by persons under eighteen years of age, and has jurisdiction in adult cases involving paternity, child abuse, nonsupport, and failure to send children to school.
