GUARDIANSHIP ASSISTANCE / PROTECTIVE SERVICES - DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES | ADVOCACY AND PROTECTIVE SERVICES, INC.

Provides protective services for adults with developmental disabilities who are unable to provide informed consent, represent themselves, or manage their own affairs. Services include guardianships, conservatorships, trusteeships, and protectorships. Guardianships are for persons declared incompetent by the court and are unable to manage their affairs/estates. Trusteeships provide management of income and assets for those who cannot manage their funds independently. Protectorships provide advocacy for the individual. Conservatorships are for competent adults with a physical disability. Will help investigate the need for services for those who feel they may be eligible. Provides information and guidance about estate planning, makes referrals, and advocates on client's behalf. Maintains an on-call system for timely responses to emergency medical situations by providing informed consent.

Any person or organization may make a referral to the agency by submitting a Referral Application and Needs Statement to the nearest regional office. Check the website (www.apsiohio.org) for information. Or phone the administrative office M-F: 9:00am–5:00pm.

Eligibility

Adults, age 18 and older, with developmental disabilities and be eligible for services from a county board of developmental disabilities, as determined by either the level of care (LOC) or Ohio Eligibility Determination Instrument (OEDI). For Guardianships: must be declared incompetent by the court.
