Eligibility
Homeowner must be an eligible veteran or have a permanent household member that is an eligible veteran. Eligible veterans are those individuals who present a government record denoting his or her other than dishonorable discharge or release from active military, naval, or air service. Household must be at or below 120% of the area median income (AMI) as determined by HUD regulations. Property taxes must be current at the time of application. Must be owner-occupied single-family property located within the boundaries of City of Columbus. Must have lived in home for minimum of one year.

Assists eligible veterans to remain in their homes and live independently in a safe and sound environment. Applicants may be eligible for grants up to $20,000 for home repairs. Priority will be given to structural, roof, mechanical and health and safety items. Funds may be used for work necessary to correct substandard, unsanitary or deteriorated condition(s). Types of repairs include correcting written housing code violations and lead paint hazards, replacing roofs and roof elements, furnaces, securing bowing/shifting basements walls, etc. Funds may also be used for health, safety, accessibility and energy efficiency work such as installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, ramps and handrails in accordance with City housing standards.
