Temporary Financial Assistance For Veterans / Surviving Dependents | Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission

Provides emergency financial assistance to eligible Veterans and their spouses, dependent children, and surviving spouses who have demonstrated a need. Assistance may include rent, mortgage, utility bill payments, and personal hygiene items. Makes determination on a case-by-case basis by staff.

Eligibility

- Serves Veterans (and their spouses) who have served in the United States Armed Forces. - Must have been on active duty for reasons other than training. Or must have received a VA-recognized service-connection disability and was discharged under honorable conditions. Additional Eligibility Requirements: - Must reside in Jefferson County for three (3) months immediately prior to application for financial assistance. - To be eligible for financial assistance, a definite need must be demonstrated. NOTE: The wording of the law states that assistance is intended for the 'indigent" (meaning Veterans suffering a level of poverty in which real hardship and deprivation are suffered and comforts of life are lacking).
