Provides health insurance program that provides hospital and medical insurance for individuals age 65 and older, disabled individuals younger than age 65 who have been entitled to Social Security disability benefits for at least 24 months, and insured workers and their dependents who need dialysis or a kidney transplant may qualify. -Persons who apply for Social Security benefits at age 65 are automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A (free hospital insurance). They may choose to sign up for Medicare Part B (medical insurance). A monthly premium for Part B is deducted from the monthly benefit check, unless low income qualifies the person to Qualified Medicare Beneficiary or Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary aid. -$600 credit for prescription assistance, in the form of a debit card, is available to income-eligible persons with Medicare Part A and/or B who don't have other outpatient prescription drug coverage. -Medicare informational handbook available. -24-hour helpline for information on health plans, prescription drug programs, nursing homes, and Medicare physician referral.
