EMERGENCY/DISASTER PREPAREDNESS / MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS | CUYAHOGA COUNTY DISTRICT BOARD OF HEALTH
Provides specialized services to the community during and after disasters (floods, blizzards, earthquakes, tornados) and accidents (fires, chemical spills, broken water or sewer structures). Services include providing information and technical assistance related to water disinfection, contaminated food product, clean-up, temporary handling of human waste and garbage, insect and rodent control, assistance with sources of medical supplies and determining need for inoculations, etc. Provides training on these subjects to municipalities or community groups within the county. Participates in disaster preparedness exercises and simulated emergencies to evaluate local emergency response. Recruits and trains volunteers to assist during a public health emergency.

Includes Environmental Health Division (food protection, risk assessments, septic system and well safety, solid waste disposal), Prevention and Wellness Division(nutrition services, wellness programs, dental care referrals), immunizations, lead poisoning prevention and detection, communicable disease prevention and control, child care education, school health, etc.), and Epidemiology/Surveillance Division. Acts as liaison with Early Start and Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps.
