- Lucas County households with income at or below $36,100 - Individuals age 65 or those who are turning 65 in the year for which they apply - Those who are totally and permanently disabled as of January 1 of the year for which they apply, as certified by a licensed physician or psychologist or a state or federal agency. Age limitations do not apply to those who qualify due to disability - Surviving spouse of a person who was receiving the previous homestead exemption at the time of death and where the surviving spouse was at least 59 years old on the date of death. Must own and occupy the home as the principal residence as of January 1st of the year in which they apply - Those who received the exemption prior to the fiscal year 2014 will not have to reapply to continue receiving the exemption. However, those currently receiving the exemption who have recently moved should reapply during the application period with their new address (they are still eligible).
Completed application. If applying for disability, application must include a federal or state document as proof of disability or be signed by a physician. A copy of the deed or trust may be required in some cases.
