Each office serves residents of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Required documents

Information required to get records includes the city where the court trial took place, the case file name, case file number, the transfer number, the agency box number, and the location number for this agency. Individuals can get this information from the court where the case was closed.

Hours

Hours for Dayton office (records after 1991) are M-F: 8:00am-4:00pm. Hours for Chicago office (records before 1991) are M-F: 8:30am-4:30pm.

Application process

Phone during hours of service for more information and for assistance. Access to court cases is now available only via online ordering or by mail or fax. No walk in service available.

Fees

Fixed fee for each record. A separate fee per page is also charged.

Maintains official records of federal court proceedings, including bankruptcy, civil, criminal, and U.S. Court of Appeals case filings. Records for cases filed after 1991 are maintained by the Dayton office; records for cases filed before 1991 are maintained by the Chicago office.

United States National Archives And Records Administration

Provides comprehensive records management support and archival services to the federal government. Provides for the economic storage and services of noncurrent (no longer required for business) records and makes records available to the general public on request. Services include establishing, maintaining, and operating records centers for federal agencies, (includes military service records, military medical records, and civilian personnel records for federal employees), an American history and government library information center, copies of original document records and a variety of services to assist in research and records management.
