Application process

<p>Applications may be started <a href="https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/start.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="underline text-blue-700">online</a>. After completion of the online process, a Social Security representative will schedule an appointment to finish the application process. Individuals unable to complete the online process may call to schedule an appointment to apply by phone or in person.</p>

<p>Open to individuals who have little to no <a href="https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/text-income-ussi.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="underline text-blue-700">income</a> or <a href="https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/text-resources-ussi.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="underline text-blue-700">resources</a> <strong>and</strong> meet at least one of the following criteria:</p> <ul> <li>are age 65 and older</li> <li>are age 18-64 with a disability or blindness that affects the individual's ability to work for at least 12 months; or the condition(s) are expected to result in death</li> <li>are age 17 or younger with a disability or blindness that has been disabling or is expected to be disabling for at least 12 months; or the condition(s) are expected to result in death</li> </ul>
