Provides a refuse collection program for the City of Akron that picks up and disposes of regular household and commercial waste and garbage. Offers a community-sponsored voluntary programs that encourage residents to recycle reusable resources. Offer their services at below normal rates for individuals with disability and older adults who are eligible for the Homestead Exception program. Seniors and people with disabilities can call 3-1-1 to request assistance taking trash out to curb.

- 311 Contact Center Hours: Available by phone Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 6:00pm. Closed holidays. Available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except for scheduled and nonscheduled maintenance or network outages beyond the control of the City. - Akron Utilities Business Office Customer Service Hours: Monday - Friday: 8:00am to 4:30pm. Trash and recycle hours vary by location. Application process
Call the 311 Contact Center for more information, to make a complaint, or report a concern. May leave a message regarding non-emergency issues when calling after 311 Contact Center hours. When calling from a home telephone inside Akron city limits, simply dial 3-1-1. Or visit the mobile-friendly website at www.akronohio.gov/311 to make a new request for service or check on the status of an existing concern. Homestead Exemption Discount: To apply for the Homestead Exemption Discount, call the Akron Utilities Business Office Customer Service at 330-375-2554, Option 0. Customer Service will verify the customer's eligibility by going to the county auditor's website to confirm the customer's participation in the Homestead Exemption program. Trash Pick-Up: Refuse should be on the curb no later than 4:30am on collection day and no earlier than 4:30pm the preceding day. Empty containers should be removed from the curb by 6:00pm on collection day. Only City-issued carts will be serviced. All garbage, including grass and animal waste, must be bagged and placed in the trash cart. Wood, branches, brush, carpeting, and fencing MUST be tied in bundles which do not exceed 4 feet in length and placed next to the trash cart. Furniture, appliances, and large items (such as a bicycle, large toy, large lamp, storm door, and so forth) are accepted. - Items NOT permitted in trash and recycle carts are: hazardous waste, roofing material, concrete, plaster, dirt, sand, gravel, bricks, drywall and demolition/construction materials. Recycling: Recyclables are collected weekly. Accepts plastic bottles and containers (milk jugs and laundry soap bottles); food and beverage cartons (milk and juice containers); flattened cardboard, paper board and mixed paper; and food and beverage cans. Does NOT accept plastic bags or glass. Items must be placed loose inside the recycling container provided by the City. All recyclables must be INSIDE the recycling container provided by the City.
