Serves users, or friends and family members of users, in Jefferson County who are in treatment of any opioid drugs such as heroin, methadone, Percocet, Vicodin, and Oxycontin.

Walk in for service. Both prescription and kit will be provided during walk in visit. Must attend a 20 minute presentation on kit instructions at time of pick up before taking kit home. Medical file will be started on person receiving kit, but it will be noted if the person is a user or a friend of a user.

Description

Provides a free kit that contains naloxone, a prescribed nasal inhalant that reverses an opioid overdose. Kit includes 2 vials of medication, 2 nasal attachments, an instructional DVD, and a small tip sheet on how to recognize an overdose. Will receive instruction on how to recognize and respond to an overdose (as well as distinguish between different types of overdose) and how to administer intranasal Naloxone to reverse the opioid overdose. All training will be provided onsite by a physician. Any person who receives a kit will have a medical file started, but there will be a distinction between person being user or friend of user.
