Also provides counseling for major psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and so forth. - Psychiatric counseling uses therapeutic techniques to promote positive personality growth and development and to maximize the individual's ability to function as independently as possible. - This may include the use of medication in which a psychiatric evaluation is used to determine the need for medication; prescription of an appropriate drug; and periodic follow-up to monitor the effectiveness of the medication.
