Home Weatherization Assistance Program (hwap) | Community Action Wayne/medina
Provides assistance to increase the energy efficiency of homes and reduce household energy expenditures. Services include safety inspection of gas appliances, carbon monoxide alarms, education on energy saving, insulation, as well as inspection, repair, and possible replacement of refrigerator, furnace or hot water tank (if warranted), and customer education. Services provided through contracted agencies. Service provided depends on the assessment of the property.

Application process
- Call the office, option 3, or visit the website for application. - Referrals accepted via Unite Us. - Return completed application and all documentation via mail or in-person during business hours. - During Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) season, client may simply fill in the check box for weatherization assistance on the HEAP application. - There may be up to a six (6) month wait during the warmer months (late Spring through early Fall).
Fee
No fee for applicants who own the home. A landlord contribution may be required if renting.
Eligibility
- Serves residents of Medina County with a household income at 200% or below the Federal Poverty Guideline Level. - Families who have received assistance any time during the last 12 months under Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or Home Energy Assistance (LI-HEAP) (does not include Emergency HEAP) are automatically income eligible for weatherization services. - Residence cannot exceed four (4) units. Multifamily residences must be individually metered. - A home may be weatherized only once and may not be re-weatherized unless the weatherization date is prior to September 1994. NOTE: Priority is given to those who are age 60 and over, have a disabled person in the household, or who have a child age 17 or under in the household.
