Prevention, Retention And Contingency (PRC) - Utilities | Jefferson County Department Of Job And Family Services

Provides utility payment assistance to prevent gas, electric, or water shut-off and for the purchase of bulk fuel for heating or to have service restored. Assists with a variety of undesignated emergency needs on a case-by-case basis.

Eligibility

- Serves Jefferson County households with at least one child under the age of 18 (or through age 19 if the child is still in high school, pregnant women (from conception to delivery), and the non-custodial father or mother (in certain cases). - Must have household income which is at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guideline Level. - At least one member of the family must be a United States citizen or qualified alien. - Assistance may only be granted once in a 12-month period. - Client may not receive PRC assistance for the same reason three years in a row. - If the amount available from PRC assistance is not sufficient to meet the presenting need, PRC may not be approved. - If the client has received PRC assistance through another county, the amount of assistance given will count against their $500 yearly cap.
