May apply for extra help if: - Receiving Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and/or Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance); and - Live in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia; and - Combined savings, investments, and real estate (other than the individual's residence) are not worth more than $45,000, if the applicant is married and living with their spouse, OR $21,870 if the applicant is not currently married or not living with their spouse. (DO NOT include the applicant's primary home, vehicles, personal possessions, life insurance, burial plots, irrevocable burial contracts, or back payments from Social Security or SSI). - DO NOT apply if the applicant has Medicare and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) OR Medicare and Medicaid because this individual automatically receives this assistance.
