Conducts investigations to determine cause and manner of death. Works with law enforcement, collects evidence, and authorizes toxicology tests and autopsies. Testifies in court when needed. Completes death certificate and upon completion of the investigations issues a final report. Is responsible for identification of the deceased and notification of next of kin. Provides information to families and to media. Helps identify threats to the public safety and is involved in public education and in training of public safety forces.
