Operates approximately 28 institutions confining approximately 49,000 inmates. Three (3) of those institutions house female inmates - the Ohio Reformatory for Women, the Dayton Correctional Institution, and Northeast Reintegration Center. The Franklin Medical Center serves as a medical hospital. The Allen/Oakwood Correctional Institution houses male inmates in need of intensive psychiatric treatment. The remaining institutions house male inmates of varying security levels. The State of Ohio also has two (2) privately-operated prisons: The Lake Erie Correctional Institution and the North Central Correctional Complex in Marion.
