- Serves low-income taxpayers of Columbiana, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull and Wayne counties who have disputes with the IRS. - Serves taxpayers for who English is a second language. - Serves taxpayers who do not already have representation in their case and who cannot afford to pay for legal representation or tax assistance. NOTE: Does not handle cases with more than $50,000 in dispute. - In determining eligibility, evaluates each taxpayer's situation individually. Considers factors such as: whether English is a second language, current income and income on the return, domestic violence, physical or mental disability, number of family members, and nature and complexity of the tax issue. - Gross household income must be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines OR must be an older adult age 60 or over.
Legal HelpLine Hours: Monday - Thursday: 9:00am to Noon 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Friday: 9:00am to Noon. Online application system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Description

Does not prepare or file tax returns. Assists low income taxpayers who are experiencing problems with the IRS. Services include (but not limited to): - Tax refund withheld by IRS. - EITC or Child Tax credit denied. - Refund withheld due to new spouse's debt. - Collection matter with IRS due to filing joint income tax return and client is divorced or legally separated. - A tax lien or tax levy from the IRS. - Overdue tax return preparation.
