U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE RURAL DEVELOPMENT

The Department of Rural Development strives to improve the living conditions and assist with needed repairs for very low-income applicants in rural areas. Loans may be made to modernize the home, to make it safer and more sanitary, or to remove health and safety hazards. Grants (for those age 62 yrs or older) may be made only for repairs that remove health and safety hazards. When utilizing RH 504 funds, major health or safety hazards should not remain, thus causing the home to remain uninhabitable.
