Eligibility
Applicants must:
  • be a resident of Kentucky and a US citizen or qualified immigrant
  • have no or low income. Current limits may be viewed online
  • be unemployed or underemployed
  • be a parent or relative caretaker responsible for children up to age 18
  • have not already exhausted their lifetime limit for KTAP benefits (60 months/5 years in a lifetime)
,Medicaid eligibility is based on household income. The following groups are eligible:

Photo ID,Proof of insurance (if applicable),Proof of residence (Proof of Kentucky residence),Social security card (Proof of identity, such as driver’s license or social security card),Tax preparation documents (Copies of tax records for self-employment),Proof of income (Proof of income within the past 60 days, including any check stubs),Proof of income (Copies of pay stubs),Other documents (Award letters from Social Security, Veterans Affairs, or Railroad Retirement, company statements for pensions and retirements, bank statements, brokerage statements, and /or copies of trusts/annuities, court orders for alimony or support),Other documents (Proof of household compisition such as lease or written statement, proof of child care costs or child support paid, proof of living expenses)

Application process

Applications may be submitted online, by phone, in person, or by mailing, faxing, or hand-delivering a completed application to the DCBS office in your county of residence. Applicants will be contacted to complete an interview after their application is received.

Provides temporary financial assistance for families with or expecting children. Also offers job preparation, work opportunities, and access to supportive services such as child care and transportation through the Kentucky Works program to eligible participants. Families who apply for KTAP will also be screened for the Family Assistance Short Term (FAST) program which offers one-time financial assistance with a verified, non-recurrent short-term need.
