Provides a program that delays an electric service shutoff for 30 days when it would be life-threatening or especially dangerous to the health of a permanent member of the household. The program allows a customer to make payment arrangements. It does not reduce the amount owed.

Application process
Call Customer Service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to start the application process. Provide American Electric Power (AEP) with customer's name and doctor's name, phone and fax number. AEP will fax the doctor's office a form to complete and return. AEP must receive the completed form from the doctor's office by 3:30pm to be reconnected on the same day. If received after 3:30pm electricity will be reconnected the next day.

Eligibility
Serves eligible AEP customers with severe health problems who have received a disconnect notice or have had electricity disconnected. Limit of three (3) medical certificates per household, per rolling 12 months.
