LIBRARY AND SERVICES REGARDING DEAFNESS | HEIGHTS LIBRARIES
Provides a variety of services designed to serve the Deaf and hard of hearing communities and to build understanding of Deaf culture. Services include a video relay phone that allows customers to communicate directly with one another or through an interpreter, a library of materials about deafness and issues of interest to this community. Programs include classes in American Sign Language basics, films celebrating Deaf culture, and regular opportunities to socialize and discuss Deafness and hard of hearing issues. Provides a website that lists events of interest to this community.

DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC - CURBSIDE SERVICE ONLY THROUGH JANUARY 16, 2022 - M-F: 10:00am-6:00pm; Saturday: 9:00am-5:00pm; Sunday: 1:00pm-5:00pm. Normally, Library with materials on hearing impairments is available M, Tu, Th: 1:00pm-9:00pm; W, F, Sa: 9:00am-5:30pm; Sunday: 1:00pm-5:00pm. Films are scheduled on the 1st Monday of the month: 7:00pm. The deaf gathering meets on the 4th Monday of the month: 6:30pm-8:30pm. Sign language classes are multi-session, offered periodically during the year.

Application process
Walk in during service hours for all services. Phone during service hours or leave a message regarding scheduling or questions about information regarding programs. Sign language classes require pre-register and class schedule varies. There is sometimes a waiting list. If sign language interpretation services are required, call a week before scheduled program.

Eligibility
Sign language classes are for ages 13 and older. Other programs have no restrictions.
