Evaluates cases where one of the following is true: there are substantiated findings of abuse to minor child after investigation by county child-serving agency; a serious incident of abuse towards the applicant has occurred within the last 30 days, or abuser has threatened to kill or physically harm applicant or commit suicide within the last 30 days coupled with severe physical violence over the past year, abuser is subject to charges or protection order for offense of violence within the past 30 days; for acts of violence toward the minor child or a civil protection order (CPO)has been issued against abuser; abuser incarcerated for offense of violence toward the minor child and incarceration will end in less than 12 months. Grandparents 55 years of older who have been acting as the child's primary caregiver for the past 90 days seeking power of attorney and caretaker authorization affidavits for purpose of third-party transaction (e.g. school enrollment, access to healthcare, etc.)

Application process
May apply for services online, where applicants can schedule a call back to speak with an intake specialist. Click on "Apply for Free Legal Help" on the organization's web site to start the application process. May also call to speak with an intake specialist. In-person intake interviews may be available when necessary to ensure access to organization's services based on individual circumstances. Those who walk into the building M-F: 9:00am-5:00pm can fill out a card to request a call back from an intake specialist.

Eligibility
Serves residents of Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Lorain, and Ashtabula counties who meet financial eligibility criteria (household income below 125% of current federal poverty guidelines with limited assets). Will evaluate applicants with gross income up to 200% of current federal poverty guidelines and older adults (age 60+) when determining financial eligibility for service. Applicant's problem must also meet case acceptance guidelines.
