Akron Alternative Academy | Akron Public Schools

Provides programs designed for students who are seeking an Akron Public Schools' high school diploma but have not been successful in a traditional high school. Offers small-group direct instruction, individual tutoring, independent study and computer-assisted instruction promote academic success with methods and techniques that are different from the traditional high school. Utilizes intensive interventions to assist students in passage of the Ohio Graduation Test. Provides on-site student services through local health and human service agencies. Offers special programming for pregnant and parenting students, students with mental health needs, and students maintaining a drug-free life style.

Hours

There are two (2) sessions daily from 8:05am to 11:25am and from Noon to 3:25pm. Students follow the Akron Public Schools calendar. The program does extend into the month of July for those students interested in extending their academic year.

Eligibility

A counselor can refer students ages 16 to 21 currently attending an APS high school. Students who have dropped out may apply for enrollment themselves. Out-of-district students may apply for enrollment by presenting a transcript from the previous schools attended and by completing the open enrollment process.
