Application process
Clients may go to website to make an appointment or call the automated tax appointment line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (appointments are required for service). Appointments can be made, changed, or cancelled through the website and through the Automated Phone Line 24 hrs. a day / 7 days a week. Callers to the automated line will be assessed for the following criteria before they are able to make an appointment: total income limit, rental income, bankruptcy, and if they own a business. Clients can also check on the status of their appointment through the website or the automated line. SITE CLOSINGS: If a site closes, the Site Coordinator will attempt to contact clients with appointments scheduled for that day (this may be by email, text, or a phone call). When this happens, clients will need to schedule another appointment through the automated line or website. Having an appointment slot does not necessarily mean that the client will be speaking with a tax preparer at that exact time. This only reserves a place in line for the date selected. Tax Preparation processes vary by site. At some sites, clients should be prepared to wait in their vehicle or in a separate room as their return is being prepared (a limited amount of space is available at some sites for one to two persons to wait inside, if needed). At drop-off sites, client will drop off documents with a preparer and return for the completed tax return at another time. Clients will be given a date and time for pick-up when dropping off documents. Clients should pay close attention to the instructions received in their confirmation email or text message about the location they choose. JOINT FILERS: must both be present at the site to validate proof of their identity and verify their Taxpayer Identification Number and then sign the return. They do not have to be at the site at the same time or on the same day. Homebound individuals (married or unmarried) can send a representative in their place,
