Eligibility

Serves residents of Stark County. A minor child or an adult may be adopted by a married couple jointly, a step-parent, or a single adult. With the exception of an adult adoption, a home study is required.

Probate Court filings for adoptions are required in the county where any one of the following apply: where the agency having custody of the child is located, where the child was born, where the person or persons seeking to adopt reside, where the person seeking to adopt is stationed in military service, and, in an independent placement, where the natural parent resides.

Individuals who may be adopted include the following: minor children, adults determined to be totally and permanently disabled or mentally disabled. Adults may adopt other adults if a parent-child relationship existed during the adoptee’s minority.
