Generally, an individual's gross income who resides in the City of Akron (including income which is deferred) and a business's net profits that is located in the City of Akron are taxable. Call for details. All Akron residents must file annual city income tax return each year, whether or not they have been fully withheld and/or have paid a municipal income tax to another community. All individuals 17 and under are exempt from City of Akron Income Tax and are eligible for a refund of municipal tax withheld. However, individuals are subject to the tax for the full year in which they become age 18. Retirees (only income is from Social Security, company pension, interest, and dividends) are not required to file a City of Akron income tax return. However, retirees must file a one-time exemption certificate with the Department of Taxation.
