COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATE | RICHLAND COUNTY JUVENILE COURT

Recruits volunteers from the community to speak for the best interest of abused, neglected and dependent children in juvenile court proceedings. Volunteers are assigned to an abuse or neglect case by Judge Steve McKinley. Duties include conducting research on the background of the case, reviewing documents, interviewing everyone involved, including the child, making reports to the court, recommending what is determined to be best for the child, and providing the judge with information for decision making process.

Eligibility

Must be 21 years of age, complete 30-35 hours of training, and be appointed by court. Volunteers must complete 12 hours of additional training annually.
