Legal Aid reviews applications in cases related to: - Food stamp overpayment, food stamps being denied, terminated, or delayed; - Ohio Works First (OWF) cash assistance/childcare vouchers/Prevention Retention Contingency (PRC) or other state-local income maintenance overpayments, OWF cash assistance/childcare vouchers/PRC or other state/local income maintenance being denied/terminated/or delayed; - Child disability case overpayments; child disability case where applicant has received notice proposing termination of benefits and an appeal has been requested; - Social Security or Supplemental Security Insurance overpayments; - Denial/termination/application delay of Medicaid or Medicare coverage or services, or problems with Medicaid or Medicare for currently or previously incarcerated individuals; - Medical and nursing home collection; - Emergency cases where there is a problem communicating with Cuyahoga Job & Family Services (CJFS) regarding benefits or application; - Public benefits case involving applicant with a mental impairment, language or literacy barrier, or other issue; - Veteran benefits. Health Care Legal Assistance: Evaluates health care cases related to: - Medicaid or Medicare has been denied or terminated AND the applicant has no medical coverage; - Applicant’s waiver services (in-home health supports, nursing, or aide services) have been reduced, denied, or terminated; - Medicare premium assistance program (SLMB, QMB, QI1) has been denied or terminated. Disability Barriers to Court/Agency: - Evaluates cases where applicant has a hearing, speech, or other impairment and has been denied communication or reasonable accommodations by a court or government agency. Financial Barriers to Court/Agency: - Evaluates cases where applicant denied access to court or governmental agency due to denial of poverty affidavit/fee wavier or otherwise unable to pay required costs to obtain vital documents. Language Access to Court/Agency: - Evaluates cases where applicant is limited English proficient and has been denied an interpreter or translator by a court or government agency.
