Eligibility
-At least one household member is age 60 or older
-A household member has a documented medical condition worsened by extreme heat
-Their electric service has been disconnected or they have received a disconnect notice
-They are trying to establish new service
Required documents
- Complete an application and interview with your local energy assistance provider/community action agency
- Submit proof of income for all household members 18 years & older
- Provide a list of all household members, including birth dates,
- Social Security numbers, & proof of citizenship (or legal residency)

Offering a Summer Crisis Program which started Wed., July 1 and is available through September 30, 2026 to provide assistance for eligible Ohioans with electric utility bills, central air conditioning repairs, and/or the purchase of an air conditioning unit or fan. The benefits can only be used once per cooling season.

Provide residential utility to Ohio households served by investor-owned electric, natural gas, telephone, and water utilities.
The agency participates in legal proceedings, at the PUCO and elsewhere, where the rates and quality of Ohioans’ utility services are at issue. Also, the agency educates Ohioans regarding their utility services.
The OCC offers many educational resources for consumers. Many of these resources are available on our website at www.occ.ohio.gov. These resources include fact sheets on a variety of utility topics and the agency’s educational YouTube videos.
