Medicaid For Long Term Care Services | Lucas County Job And Family Services

Provides public insurance to cover medical services to those of any age who require long term care, which may include doctor visits, some prescription drugs, hospital care, home care, long-term care, medical equipment, transportation, mental health, vision, dental, substance abuse services and other services. Medicaid is the payer of last resort - Medicare will be billed first if client is eligible for it. Medicaid will not cover prescriptions as it is necessary for the application to have Medicare Part D coverage.

Eligibility

-Individuals of any age who need long term care services -Lucas County resident -United States citizen or qualified non-citizen -Income at or below the Special Income Level (SIL), which is 300% of the Federal Poverty Level - those whose income is higher than the SIL must create a Qualified Income Trust (QIT) -Assets up to $2,000 for a single individual. For spouses, a Resource Assessment must be conducted to determine the level of protected assets for the ‘Community Spouse’ (that is, the spouse that is not institutionalized) -There is a 5-year ‘look back’ period to determine if there have been any improper transfer of assets during that period
