Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Nursing | University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center

To receive the highest level of care, individuals who indicate the rape occurred within the past 72 hours may walk-in for service, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. SANE nurses are on call, and will be paged when requested. Once paged, SANE nurse will be on-site within one hour. Physicians will provide any needed emergency health care and will direct individuals to nurses following care. Regardless of when the rape happened, individuals may call the Rape Crisis hotline for additional services.
Emergency medical services are as assessed for other hospital services. SANE examinations are free.

Provides a private, confidential area, staffed by nurses who have been specifically trained to care for individuals who have experienced sexual assault or rape. Service includes a complete physical assessment and, if needed, evidence is collected in a sensitive manner. Medical, legal, and emotional support is also provided.
