Appoints a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) for youth whose parents are divorced or divorcing and are affected by custody and visitation issues. The GAL represents the child's best interest by performing an investigation and interviews of the family and their situation. GALs have been trained for this position and are generally attorneys, social workers, or psychologists. A GAL may be appointed for reasons such as to ensure the child's views are heard or one parent's behavior may be hurting the child.
