A complaining party should report a crime to the police for an investigation before going to see the Prosecutor. Before signing a criminal complaint, you must swear that the statement is true. If you intentionally make a false or malicious statement in signing the criminal affidavit, you could be prosecuted or sued.

Offers an opportunity for people to report a wide variety of non-emergency crimes. If a staff member of the Prosecutor's office determines there is a probable cause to believe a crime was committed, the reporting party may be asked to sign a criminal complaint. The ultimate decision as to whether or not a criminal complaint will be signed rests with the Prosecutor.
