Eligibility

Open to active Duke Energy customers who:

  • are responsible for their home heating costs with the bill in their or a spouse's name
  • have a household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • have a past due balance, a disconnection notice, or a defined hardship event such a loss of job or unplanned medical expense

Households must not be disconnected for nonpayment at the time of application.

Utility bill (Account number and name on account for main heating fuel sources and electric bill, most current heating bill OR statement from landlord if heating expenses are included in rent OR statement from utility company if applicant participates in a Pre-Pay Electric Program),Proof of income (Proof of all household income from the previous month),Social security card (Proof of Social Security Number for each member of the household)

Virtual appointments may be scheduled online. Walk-ins accepted for in-person service.

Fees

No fee to apply. Customers will be responsible for Duke Energy charges beyond the assistance provided by the crisis payment.
